Eminem's Wife Sues Him for $10 Million
August 23, 2000 According to the Detroit Free Press, one week after rapper Eminem filed for divorce, his wife Kimberly Mathers is suing him for a cool $10 million, claiming the rapper defamed her in his lyrics, is an unfit parent to their child, and has threatened to leave her broke. The defamation argument comes from, among other sources, Eminem's "Kim" song, in which the rapper accuses his wife of cheating on him; the song also contains lyrics alluding to his desire to kill her.
A follow-up on another woman (and court case) in Eminem's life reveals that mother, Debbie Mathers-Briggs filed a new $1 million lawsuit against her son in addition to her existing $10 million suit filed last year. Her defamation case cites, among other instances, the track "Kill You," which contains the lyrics, "I'm gonna pull you to this bullet and put it thru you! . . . Just bend over and take like a slut. . .ok ma!"
Adding fuel to the legal fires, in a recent magazine interview Eminem called his mother "strung out on prescription drugs, addicted to bingo, and always looking to make an easy dollar the good old American way: by suing."
Women aren't Eminem's only woes: The state of Michigan is also trying the rapper on several criminal charges. Tipped off by friends that his wife was at the Hot Rocks Cafe, a nightclub in a suburb of Detroit, Eminem and his entourage confronted her male companion that evening. During the incident, Eminem allegedly assaulted Kimberly's male friend. This Hot Rocks incident is in addition to charges brought against Eminem for carrying a concealed weapon and brandishing a firearm in public when he confronted an associate of Insane Clown Posse in a car stereo store. Eminem faces up to five years in jail for the concealed weapon charge and 90 days in jail for brandishing a firearm in public in that case.
